How do you guys not break your wheels doing rescue missions?

No matter how soft I try to land, I always get a landing gear malfunction on my XCub when I land to pick the person up. Am I doing something wrong or is it just being bugged out? Bro also tells me I failed every time I finish a mission, but then I still actually pass. I know that's a bug lol.
