Dwayne Casey Sean McDermott comparison

Im not a big NBA fan but I live in Toronto. I clearly remember the Lebronto years and can’t help but wonder if McDermott is Dwayne Casey. Incredible coach, culture builder, but he doesn’t have the ability to get over the hump against the bigger brother opponent when it’s do or die time.

Dwayne Casey was infamously fired after winning coach of the year. Nick Nurse comes in, they make the big Kawhi trade to reset the culture, and the rest is history. You could argue the biggest benefit was LeBron leaving but that Raptors team clearly had a killer instinct that wasn’t there before, and their run was still impressive (winning 4 straight after being down 0-2 to the Bucks, then beating the dynasty Warriors)

I think McDermott has gotten himself another year considering we weren’t supposed to make it this far, but if we get beat by the Chiefs again, it surely has to be time.
