Thoughts on Lisa and other -a names
My husband apparently loves the name Lisa for a girl. I like a variety of other simple, classic -a names but am not quite sold on Lisa. I like that it’s short (we have a long last name), easy to say and spell, and familiar although unpopular right now. I don’t like that it feels like everyone’s middle-aged or just retired mom-aunt-etc. What do we think, namenerds?
Also, how would you rank these names (and why, if you feel compelled to share) Lisa, Nadia, Gloria, Sylvia, Diana
For context, middle name will likely be Alice or Carol (honor name for our grandmas), we live in the US, and last name begins with U.
Edit: thank you all for sharing your perspectives! I did not anticipate so many responses and can’t respond to everyone but I appreciate each of you sharing your opinions and stories. It seems that Lisa is one of those controversial “in between” names that hasn’t come back into style yet and can be associated with a particular age group but is still a solid, beautiful name.
