Am I being delusional? 27F 34M

I have been dating this guy for 3 months. We talked for about two & a half months before he asked me to be his girlfriend. Well the night before last we got into an argument because I had a little to much to drink & acted a fool. Well he explained to me that he was really upset and thought about ending everything but realized that we all make mistakes and wanted to give me another chance.5 minutes later he asked me “do you like me or love me” I told him I couldn’t answer that being that he just said he was thinking about ending things with me.(I have a lot of trauma in this area so I’m very guarded) I am falling in love but I don’t know if I’m there yet so I told him I’ll tell him the answer a different day. ( I was shook I didn’t know what to say) but why would someone ask that. I thought maybe he’s in love and is scared to say it without knowing how I feel first. I asked him back and he said he wanted me to answer first. Or does he just want to know for fun Like Idk I’m confused 😂 I was just confused on why he asked me that.
